nope, not with OEM computer control module if you lose the TPS signal and other electronics you may unhook

so how the hell do these guys switch from tbi to carb if they have this trans??

what do i need to use from the 95 tbi 3 bolt valve cover 350
to make a regular old school 350 and 4l60e trans work?
the motor is going back in where the tbi motor was fitted/running?

kits are available from most of the trans companies that will allow you to control the 4l60e without a computer. some have a 4 gear lock up function available.

ok cool is this the easiest route to take or is it just a simple case of fitting some of the tbi motors parts onto an old school 350?
any idea aprox price for these kits?? is it a stripdown job or easy external fix?
thanks 427!

the 4l60e needs a computer to shift automatically. Stand alone control computers are 800 dollars - up.

You can bolt the TBI parts on to some early 350 engines. You need a TPS for throttle % input for the computer on the vehicle.

Also keep in mind on the vehicle, depending on the vehicle year if you remove too many of the computing - electronic parts, the speed-O will not function. Some other dash items may cease to function too.

You don't need to disassemble the tranny, but the stand alone systems are not cheap. THIS unit is about $550, I know nothing about the quality, etc. of it.

thanks, did a google in the end and found a few threads about swapping on carbs or fitting old school carb 350s where a new school tbi motor was and using the 4l60 e
and it seems all you do is re connect the throttle position sensor (tps) and mount it diy style onto your new oldschool carb and fit a regular distributor the old school way and everything works fine with trans etc

anybody know more about this? it seems a hell of a lot cheaper/easier than a new computer!

If you are street driving I would go with the fuel injection. It isn't that hard or that expensive. If it is strip only probably a carb is good. Your computer will be cheap in a good wrecking yard and not to high in a parts store. You will have to have a computer core. It the car is a tbi car originally make sure you pull the calibration chip out of the computer first. They are fragile and sensitive to static shock. You can probably google precautions or let me know and i can list them for you. I have built lots of street rods with the tpi motors, computer and trans. It is easy and very streetable. Reasonable power, runs on regular gas, timing contol from the factory and parts that are plentiful. On my race car i run a big carb. lots of timing, a monster cam and 6:42 gears. Thee only place ii can afford to drive it is at the strip. It is horrible to drive everywhere else too. It has one purpose. Strip only. I would tbi for a street or strip car and add performance mods like an upgrade calibration chip or programming and maybe a small NOS kit. You can add you performance mods later ... after you get running.

hi tune up

maybe this isnt the place for my questions its my tow truck??

ok well tbh its a daily and i want to run lpg (propane) i allready have an impco 425 and e regulator so i figured this would be easier on an old school 350?

the truck is allready tbi but the motor needs to come out its not broken as such but its a long story!

so i either buy a complete tbi motor wich wont be that well set up for propane
or i build up an old school 350 plenty of c.r an rv cam advanced up maybe a magajolt system or correct dizzy advance curve to suit and plonk the impco onto a carb intake

i want reliablity, good mileage, torque its not a race car. but dont want to be stranded if the tbi decides to go awol miles from home BUT i need that 4l60e and factory guages/maybe cruise etc to still function
i want max milleage but will swap 1-2 mpg for ease of maintenence if broke

Couldn't you use a 700R4 valve body? Or swap the 4L60E for a 700R4?

700r4 type valve body can not bolt onto a 4l60e case. Not even close to the same and there are no governor circuits to provide road speed input.
