4l60e 4x4 To A 4l80 ???

I bought a 1996 chevy Tahoe at an auction, found there to be a b&m shift kit also no reverse, shifts very hard and winding out more than a shift kit would normally, the tranny oil was severely burnt. My question is would it be possible to put a tranny that was only a 2wd, is there a converter to make 4wd? also is it possible to put a 4L80 into my chevy and what years would be interchangeable Thank You Roxi

4L80E is not a direct swap from a 4L60E trans.

From your description... the current trans has a broken sun shell. No reverse , long time to shift ; indicates the trans is skipping 2nd gear and hitting 3rd gear. A broken sun shell produces NO reverse and NO 2nd gear and NO 4th gear.

A 2WD trans needs the output shaft changed to a 4x4 output shaft to bolt in place of a 4x4 trans...
