4L60E or 700r ?
Looking for the better automatic that is build-able to around550 hp/flbtorque probably a little less.
this is nice:The 4L60E beefed up or The tried and time tested warhorse:Warhorse Now I am an oldies lover thus the 383 1970 Nova i am building. So the 700r that has passed the trials plus appeals to me. But i am also a firm believer in technological progress and think(help me out here) that a transmission that has evolved almost 3 decades SHOULD be superior. The tranny will use a 1800 custom Torque converter to spin it from the 383 CID. I am looking for extreme fast launches over top end, but just barely street-able. So i am just asking which tranny is the better and why. i will up date the build periodically and mention the part and who ever talked me into it

i would go with the 700r4 to keep things simple and less expensive. I have an 89 K1500 with the 700r4 and I also have a 93 K1500 with the 4l60e. I like the electronic shift a lot better than the throttle valve but if you get a good 700 with the throttle valve cable properly adjusted you should be happy with it. When you say the vehicle will be barely street able what do you mean? Are you saying that you want to drive it as a daily driver or you just want to drive it to the track and cruise with it a bit? Just curious of why you want an overdrive trans?

As to why those tranns.-availability-reliability-budget. BUT i am open to better suggestions always. The day i dont learn something will probably be the day i die.

Ah well it's obvious i am no tranny man.
So the Gears/planet/bands are all the same in these 2 ? No new tech in the 4L60? If that is the case no sense in worrying there. But is the 700r that I linked a good tranns and reasonable price? |

I think the link is a little pricey, try this one out http://racetransmissions.com/store/i...th/1_25_56_112 these guys get used a lot on the tv show extreme 4x4 and the other tv shows on powerblock. I am not going to recommend these guys nor say they are bad but I have a transmission in my truck from MadDogTransmissions http://www.maddogtransmissions.com/v...es/default.htm I have had it in my truck for a little over 1 year now. I love it, it provides firm positive shifts
