i have a 91 s15 jimmy 4x4 automatic with a 700r4 that is shot, so i wanted to swap it with a 4l60e that i had laying around from a 95 chevy 1500 4x4. any suggestions on the easiest way to make the swap on a limited budget?

Can not be swapped cheaply.

The 4l60e needs a computer type of controller to operate. Those run 600.00 dollars and higher

Agreed. Cheaper to rebuild the 700 and then you have a basically new transmission.

or he could swap all the wiring from the truck to the jimmy and use the computer from the truck and it would be free just time consuming

i dont understand why ppl have such a hard time understanding that the 4L60E is electronically controlled and needs the PCM to operate and will not readily work in place of a non-E trans

and think they can easily do it

crazy,,

it seems like every day theres a dozen ppl starting threads thinking they are going to put an E trans where a non-E trans was..

wow..

so much fail..

i dont know within how many different threads you have to tell ppl it wont readily work and will require money or lots of work before ppl will finally quit starting the same new threads asking if they can do it or not..

hmm..
