what did you replace the original trans with? A fresh rebuild? Any warranty?

the 3-4 clutch pack in this tranny is a problem since the design was introduced in the 700r4 in 1982

i bought the tranny it has maybe 60,000 on it and cuz it doing the same thing as the one before it. Could it be electrial problems?? Or could it be a solenoid that could be screwing it up. cuz i tore the other one apart and it seamed to be fine the only thing i could see is the rubber o ring on the end of the solenoid was tore.

electrical problems usually set a code or 2.

The shift solenoids are both energized for 1st gear. One sol turns off = 2nd gear. Both sol off = 3rd gear.

How experienced are you with automatics? Could you tell if the 3-4 clutch pack had too much clearance? If the 3-4 pack does not function , there is no 3rd or over drive.

Other items could be wrong too , creating the same problem in both trannys for different reasons.

I'm not much help , sorry
