4L60E Shift problems

Freshly rebuilt tranny worked great for 6 months behind stock 5.7L chevy TBI(1995 Silverado 1500). Engine swap to BBC 540 (carburated); tranny wasnt ever removed. INstalled factory TPS switch to carb linkage and is sending / receiving proper signal. Speedo works. What would cause the vehicle to start off in 3rd gear and can manually shift down to 2nd and back to 3rd. No first gear, no OD. No prior problems with the tranny prior to engine swap; again the tranny was a fresh rebuild 6 months prior. What else tells the tranny to shift besides the TPS and Speedo sensor?

Frustrated and going no where; Brain

Sounds like the 4l60E is not getting any power feed (voltage)... default gear is 3rd in that trans when there is no connection.

Sounds good BUT what wire gives it power? I haven't disconnected anything from the tranny. There is a fuse for the tranny but it's not blown.

the voltage comes down through the wire harness.

You may have a blown fuse , pinched the wire harness during engine swap , cut a wire , a bad ignition switch.

Default gear on this trans is 3rd gear. Default happens when there is no power & communication to the trans from the computer. This should set trouble codes immediately

If you are getting this problem , is the check engine trouble light on?

Has the vehicle computer been scanned?
