4l60e tag id #

i have a 93 chevy s10 blazer, it had a 4l60e in it. i bought the same transmission from the same year s10 blazer. now i know that they also used a 700r4 for half of the 93s but a junkyard told me that besides knowing that my tranny was a 4l60e i also needed to know the tranny tag id number. where is it located and how many numbers are in it?

Are you sure it's a 4L60E or just a 4L60, the latter of which is not fully electronic as is the "E". The 4L60 is just another update of the 700R. An E will have a large, round connector on the right side with a bunch of wires going into it. It will also not have a TV cable as does a 700R and 4L60. I didn't think they used the E until '94 in anything, but I could be wrong. I know that no Corvette got it before the '94 model year.

GM installed the L60E trans in trucks , vans etc in 1993...

the corvette and F body cars ran a non electronic L60 trans with a 5 pin connector near the shift linkage like all the 700r4 and 4L60 had a 4 pin connector.

you need a 1993 or 94 4L60E trans for replacement . in 1995 Gm started the PWM lock up system for the converter clutch in various models

Tags are usually on the top of the bell housing. However, not all transmission had them, not all tags are still there, and not all tags are still readable.

There is a number stamped on the case pan rail about 8 characters long that includes ONE of the ID codes. It may be enough to ID the transmission.

If the 4th character is a 'D', you have a 4L60-E. If an 'M', you have a 700-R4, renamed by GM to 4L60.
