4L60E tranny HELP

Ive got a 97 k1500 4x4 v6 with some harsh shifting from 1st to 2nd. It will sometimes hang up in third gear for a while before shifting into O.D. I was told that Im in need of a new valvebody. Ive located some complete used bodies with a very low miles on them. Im currently at around 154K. My questions are: What other model years will will be the same as mine? Can you ever get rid of the burnt tranny fluid? Ive changed it twice now and its getting better. Tranny will shift fine on certain colder mornings. 50-50 chance though. I am mechanically inclined, just tranny stupid though. Any help will be appriciated! T.Y. ed

you will need a 97 & newer valve body due to the ohm ratings on a solenoid. Your tranny is a PWM unit and the valve body must match that too.

Chances are the 2nd gear shift ball has worn through the separator plate. A VERY common problem on the 4L60E. it will cause a harsh 1-2 shift.

TransGo sells new plates that are better , stronger wear resistant. I would recommend the TransGo PWM valve system repair too.

A hang up in the OD shift could be solenoid , worn accumilator bore/piston.

4l60e tranny probs.......

Well Ive just replaced my valvebody with a rebuilt one that included a new spacer plate. One of the balls was stuck in the old spacer plate and you could tell that the others really wore the plate hard. So I filled the tranny up, got it running at normal driving temp and finished topping it off. Drove about 30 miles home and it preformed perfectly. I told me ole lady that it was fixed! Very proud of myself also. About an hour or so we jumped in and went for a ride and what did it do!!!!! Slammed from first to second just like before!!!!!!! Mind you that I perchased a complete unit with all the electrical goodies so that I wouldnt have to use any of my old parts. We stopped at a store for about ten minutes and when we took back off it shifted perfectly. Im very confused and highly pissy after all the work. Any ideas????? Thanks, Ed..
