Hi, I posted about a month ago, got the problem fixed I thought, now back with the same problem no OD,D, only R,2,1.
Had tranny rebuilt, at local shop I'm assuming 3-4 clutch pack is burn, the fluid has some black in it. Could any of you good tranny rebuilders tell me why this has happening 2 times now? When I hook my Matco scanner up to it there are no codes showing, something just seems wrong is it in the rebuild or my truck. Thanks.
Did you or anyone check the tranny fluid cooler lines?? I've had a friend years ago kinked a cooler line and didn't know it. It took out the upper clutches from heat.
I did check lines after installed all ok. I talked to the guy that build it he says maybe computer what I don't understand is if it was the computer why don't I have more issues or any DTC codes.
Hum,now you got me wondering that's one thing I ask the guy when he rebuilt it and he said they're all the same it's the work you do inside that's different.
Does anyone have a link to what the readout or values are SUPPOSED to be on a transmission while doing a live road test for a 2001 Chevy 1500 5.3 vortec with a 4L60E? What are my main focus points that I should be looking at while doing the road test? Again, there is no overdrive, or drive, and I'm not a tranny guy so maybe my wording isn't what it would be if I was, but I'm doing my best. I'm just trying to get some helpful information here, and I appreciate all of your help!
I would use the scanner to view live data feed. See what gear the PCM is commanding and if the trans is responding.
You mention when you place the shifter in OD ,, the trans is in 2nd gear. What does the scanner say?
You may have electrical problems inside. If the trans shop repair was cut rate repair job, the wire harness may be old & brittle. Connections may not be good. Pressure manifold may not be operating correctly
Solenoids can fail in two methods: Electrical & hydraulically. If the solenoid fails electrically , usually the PCM picks up on that if there is a short in the coil, sets a DTC
If the solenoid fails hydraulically, It may leak or not seal as needed for control of oil.
Does this scanner have a "manual test mode" ? This is where you can shift the trans thru the gears by pushing a button to shift up or down
1st Gear: Solenoid 1-2: ON Solenoid 2-3: ON
•2st Gear: Solenoid 1-2: OFF Solenoid 2-3: ON
•3st Gear: Solenoid 1-2: OFF Solenoid 2-3: OFF
•4st Gear: Solenoid 1-2: ON Solenoid 2-3: OFF
So if you aren't getting power to the Solenoids at all, you should be getting 3rd gear only.
The 80e should default to 2nd.
A quality scan tool with Bi-Directional controls will allow you to electronically select any gear, just as Crosley alluded to.
Thank you Hog and Crosely, this is exactly what I needed to know!
