4l60e Year Interchange

I have a 4l60e from a 94 minivan and I know a guy that needs one for his 98 Chevy Express 5.0 liter van. Does anyone know if this can work?

Thanks,
Pugsy

re: 4l60e Year Interchange

The 4.3V6 & 5.0-305V8 have the same bellhousing pattern so it will bolt up. I think it will work. Maybe Crosley will be on here later & I'm sure he can tell you for sure about the other things, wiring, converter, flexplate etc.

re: 4l60e Year Interchange

the 1994 will not retro fit into a 1998 vehicle..

there are lock up strategy control differences.

The 1998 vehicle may be a 3 piece case trans (bell housing un-bolts)

re: 4l60e Year Interchange

Won't work.

98 and up have a detachable bell housing and the total length of the transmission is different in addition to some of the other comments above. The 94 will work in some 95-97 applications, but ONLY if you cobble together a cable bracket to mount the shift cable to. Most 95 and up to present applications require that cable mount. 94 and back have no provision for it.

no.

the 2003 vehicle will have a LS series engine. Different converter design , the bell housing is different depth , the input shaft & pump stator design is different from the 1998 vehicle.

The 1998 Sierra may or may not have a detachable design bell housing . 1998 is considered the first year of the bolt on bell housing 4L60E trans.

nope.

You must use a 3 piece case trans that is not bolted to a LS series engine.

GM introduced the new LS series engine in trucks in 1999. I believe GMC trucks were first with 4.8 and the 5.3 engines.

The trans with the LS engine has a different design torque converter , input shaft , stator support shaft on the trans. They are not interchangeable.

re: 4l60e Year Interchange

You must use a detachable V8 Chevy bell type transmission that does NOT have a bolt on the top point of the transmission. Also, the input shaft MUST have a polished tip.
