4L80 - Where to buy ?

Hi all,

I think i want to go whit a 4L80 fully manual in my T/A 84..
I need info from anyone that have buy a trans from those comp ;

Jet Performances

I like the one from PATC, but hughe have a better price, and i'm not sure if
patc is a reliable source, i try to have more comment so plz if can help me make a more secure choice..since i will buy it online!

Jet and Hughes are nationally known and more easily recognized.

I have heard a few bad experiences from the people at your transmissioncenter link, and have only heard of phoenix transmission nothing bad or good, nothing at all.

I have talked to pheonixtrans this morning and i think i will go whit it, prettu fast to reply to email et look like a nice guys, i have read 1 or 2 bad comment also on transmcenter and the lack of recomendation, i cant find a lot info on the web at the except. of the multiple website transcenter have..

pheonixtrans look like a reputable shop and i have found some recommandation here & here on the net.. I'm more secure to buy online from them i think... And around same price, this tranny will cost me a 4000$ whit a billet torque...

as for JEt & hughes .. Still no reply to my email...

any other info welcome before i buy !

Definitely let us know how everything goes when you decide to get it from whoever you decide on.

No prob i will.. Will do a little reviews about the full experience & also how the trans will perform ... The snow will soon be gone here.. lol.. And i realy need that trans in my car.. But damn hard on the wallet..

Just got a reply from JET, they dont do any transmission at all... !!!

Just Ordered a 4L80 Electronics whit compushift (compushift.com) / billet torque/ nos ready from phoenixtrans.com Phoenix Transmission Products..

Should have it in a month !

I never buy a so costly trans in my life

CompUshift is a quality unit.

I prefer Hughes Performance stuff.

Compushift look a great unit , i dont find any ppl that have used it btw..

I have contacted Hugues to have a price & part #
But after telling i use a supercharger & nos the guys bring
me a standard part# for the trans (same trans they sell normaly) and the torque they give does'nt even have anti-ballon for the nitrous...
So after looking on the part at Hugues i have seen that they have only 2 torque avail. and 2 type of this transmission...

The guys at phenix trans (greg) look like very knoledgeable and would build a custom trans for my use whit a billet torque... I know phoenix trans do is own Torque itself and are specialized on Overdrive transm. Also i know i would have a 2004 housing for the 4l80 (brand new) and build specificaly for my engine & use...

Honestly after lot of search, Tci, Jet, Hughues, most of it would take several days to reply to and email if they reply at all... I have asked at greg several questions & info (at least 15 email) then always got reply in and hour..

Look like a great place, i have not found 1 bad comment about pheonix transmission products and they are in buziness since 1980.. will see later on.. Only thing i have found was good comment.

I work for Hughes and ALL of our converters for super chargers or nos have anti balloon plates.

We even install balloon plates inside the converters of the 7 & 8 second cars that run our stuff.

If you call Hughes, talk to Mark.

I would not known that when i have looked for the torq i have not seen very mutch spec.... I would know for the next time..

I was told that you probably were quoted on a converter with a billet front half aka cover.

the billet covers do not need a anti-balloon plate.

Billet covers are used in HD applications.....ie; high horsepower, power adders , diesel multi-disc lock up converters

I think you made the best choice for your application! in another post you asked for a photo of my setup with the torque arm installed? I do not have pictures as I would need to get it up on a lift to take some! sorry to say that is not do-able at this time

No prob for the pics..

Will have to build a custom crossmenber anyway , can't find any one that build one for a 4l80 an F-body 82-92.. Even sponh dont have it
