I have an 02 chevy silverado z71 with a 327, will be putting in a cam and other sorts of things down the road but am in need of a tranny right now, should i upgrade to a 4l80e tranny since i have to buy one anyway,? and does it bolt right up to the motor like a 4l60e would?

Are you talking an early version of 327 chev engine?
TO swap to the 4L80e , you need a controller for the transmission. If you are using the OEM computer, you will need to re-wire a few pins in the connector for the 4L80e trans or use an adapter pig tail. The computer will also need some re-programing. The yoke for the transmission is larger - different splines from a 4L60e Drive line will need to be shortened or find a proper length drive line with correct yoke for the 4L80e
