4l80E and 4l60E

this tranny is in a 04 sierra 1500 z71 but im having the same problem with my 95 z28 you take off it goes normal. then you shift it spikes sometimes. Other time it hold it at a high rpm like you can a manual then it shifts. I've also noticed you gun it from 60 mph it bounces off the rev limiter.

then my 95 its like you hold it WOT when it shifts into 4th it bounces off the rev limiter. then for some odd reason my camaro won't lower the rpms in 4th gear like my torque coverter isn't locking up. Im completely lost any help is greatly appreciated!!!

You must be talking about a 4L60E since both vehicles would have the same design tranny.

What is the history if these trannys? Mileage, recent repair work or over haul??

What do you mean by :" spikes sometimes" ??

Is this an engine RPM flare during the shift?

What shift is happening when this occurs? 2-3 shift ? Or the 3-4 shift?

THe comment of the 95 hitting the rev limiter during the 3-4 shift.... I imagine the 3-4 clutch pack is burned up, probably the 2-4 band too.

I would not be surprised if both vehicles have the same trouble internally.

yes it does flare. and it happens through the 1-4 shifts sometimes only 1-2 and other times 3-4 If that's the case i got ripped off brand new tranny in the sierra and maybe if im lucky 1500 miles on it time for a heavy duty tranny. I was thinking maybe it could be the torque converter not locking up ?

the touque converter clutch is NEVER going to engage under the conditions u posted.. its either internal, or it could have other problems... since both r computer controlled, it could be a number of things... but id follow what crosley has to say about it. he knows what hes talking about..
last thing, have u considered maybe not giving it full throttle all the time? under cruising conditons, there should be roughly a 200 rpm drop when the converter engages in 3rd or 4th gear anywhere from 35-50 mph. it u dont have a tach in either vehicle, then ur going to need a scanner that has the ability to see the data stream from the pcm so u can see if its engaging the converter clutch...

the camaro is the only one i hotrod the sierra is DD it barely see's WOT i did have it wot to see what the problems might be. the camaro it is a high mileage car so i can see the tranny going in it. but the sierra as i mentioned earlier is a dd car hauler/parts runner and had a new tranny put in. I was thinking that maybe they replaced the tranny in the sierra and not the torque converter .but I don't know much about tranny's. so all help is appreciated
