Hey guys, new to the forum here. Ive searched and think i may have found my answer, but want to double check. I have a 94 4l80e and the direct piston cracked. I want to replace the direct and forward drum pistons with the bonded steel pistons. It has the aluminum pistons at this time. Are the bonded pistons interchangeable to use in 94 model direct and forward drums? Thanks for your help in advance. Much apprecaited.

If I understand the question;

the bonded pistons are direct replacement for the aluminum pistons. I never re-use aluminum pistons in 4L80e

Most bonded pistons are marked for proper drum fitment. the center area is different size seal for each drum. Forward drum center seal is smaller

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. I went ahead and installed the bonded steel pistons and they fit fine and pressure checked fine. The gentlemen i bought the kit off ebay from said they will not interchange. Not sure where he got his info. Anyhow, thanks again.

You can install the direct drum bonded piston into the forward drum.. Problem is the bottom steel plate can then drop below the grooves for the steel plate. The plate will then bind up the piston and cause a 'no apply' situation

Ya I noticed when looking at the pistons where they were marked direct and forward. Everything seemed fine when I air checked it. Thanks again for the help. I was just kinda lost when i called the trans shop on why they didn't send me the steel pistons like they were supposed to and he stated 97 and up only had them and damage will occur on 96 and down.
