4L80E intermittent problem

OK guys my 1996 k2500 has a rebuilt 4L80E. It was rebuilt about a year and a half or more ago. It only has about 18,000 miles on it. The intermittent problem I am having is when starting from a stop the spedometer won't read which in turn will not let the engine upshift from first. The truck still starts out fine it. It will run up to 3000-3500 and the speedometer will start to climb and it up shifts and down shifts unti the speed and R.P.M's stabilize, then it runs fine! It doesn't slip or shudder. I am guessing it is a speed sensor...but my knowledge of cars ends at the flywheel and starts back up at the driveshaft!! Please help this is my daily driver and I'm bumming rides to work because I'm afraid to drive it and make it worse!!

A K2500 truck? 4x4 truck, the VSS should be on the transfer case I beleive... it can be a bad sensor, damaged wires or the VSS is clogged up with fine metal debris and can not pick up the signal from the reluctor wheel to provide signal input to PCM

VSS = Vehicle Speed Sensor
