in an '01 Buick Regal GS. Went to the dragstrip for the season opener and noticed the car was shifting about 500 rpm early. I tried disconnecting the battery for ~20 min or so and ran it again, the 1-2 shift was right at ~5750 on the tach but the 2-3 shift was still around 5200. Scanned for codes and pulled up a PO336 pending (crank position sensor fault).
Could the crank sensor cause the trans to shift early?
I know these cars will enter into 'abuse mode' if any wheelspin is detected in 2nd gear but am unsure if abuse mode will cause it to shift early and also doubtful that I was getting any wheelspin in 2nd (couldn't hear/feel anything unusual).
I was running 225/50-16 hankook race tires on the front, stock tire size is 225/60-16 - could the shorter front tire have been a problem? Was expecting a 'low tire' idiot light with the shorter fronts but it did not come up.
Hoping somebody will have an idea what is going on.......

maybe I wasn't clear but something changed. I've had this car to the track off and on for the last 5 yrs and it always shifted around ~5750 on the tach. Usually grabs 3rd just before the finish line.
I have mismatched tire sizes before (front to rear) and it didn't effect the shifts but did light the 'low tire' indicator. maybe the 225/50's are close enough to stock that it wont trip the dummy light - I dunno.

I had a 99 Regal GS 3800 for years as my DD. I used to run snow tires on it in the winter and they were a little taller than the summer tires on the factory 5 spokes. I never had an issue; in fact I had to drive it on a donut spare for a couple days and I never had an issue either. Maybe the trans needs an adjustment?
