5.0 going in a 1956 Ford Crown Vic.

I have put a 91 5.0 HO with a AOD in A 1956 Crown Vic. I had to put a front sump oil pan on it to clear the crossmember. I wanted to keep the serpentine belt system but can't put a dipstick in the 91 timing chain cover with the serpentine set up. Any suggestions?

bone yard scrounging

time to look at the salvage engine pile. some older engines had a dipstick tube rivited to the side of the oil pan find one and the dip stick. and try to weld it at the same relative height on the pan.. then when you refill the engine oil with the proper amount for the pan you are using,, I think some front sumps took 5 and some 6 quarts put in the dip stick and see where it reads then either shorten it at the handle or find a longer one until you have it reading correctly. when using engines out of a van they sometimes have a long dip stick and tube I have shortened them..

Thanks!

I figured that I would end up doing something of that nature but I didn't realize that some dipsticks were riveted to the pan. I will start looking for one. Thanks!!!!

No big Deal

I have a 5.0 in my '54 Customline,if you have the pan off(so the drill filings fall out) you just have to drill a 3/8" hole in your timing cover, the chrome dipstick and tube they sell at Autozone etc. for about $10 is like 68-70 Fords.Put a small amount of RTV around the base of the new dipstick tube and gently tap it in.Send me a pm & email if you want a pic.You do have to plug up the old side dipstick hole also.

56 ford

My neighbour installed a 302 into his 56 Ford car. The crossmember would not allow him to remove the drain plug. The plug was at the back of the sump. Out came the engine. I relocated the drain to the bottom side of the sump for him and he reinstalled the mill. Little details... The pan was taken from a 1979 F-150.

Had he used a 65-70 Mustang pan and pump(aftermarket chromes are $40) he would have saved himself a lot of hassle, any 54-56 swap requires a front sump pan.
