5.0 HO help

Hello everyone. I have a factory five cobra kit with a 93 5.0 HO cobra engine in it and a T5.
It was running rough and found that the #7 cylinder was dead, no oil pressure, etc. Just completed a rebuild. bored .030 over, reworked edelbrock performer rpm heads with new valves & guides. Factory intake with BBK 70mm throttle body. Factory injectors & rails. Shorty headers with side exhaust. Installed new MSD distributor and coil.
This thing is hard to start cold but fires up easy when warmed. Tach is jumping like a loose connection somewhere (cant find one) and over 1700 rpm engine cuts out so bad it quits pulling.
I'm wondering if my fuel pressure regulator has gone bad and starving the engine. any other thoughts?

These guys are real savvy when it comes to 5.0's www.sbftech.com How did you determine #7 was dead? compression check? When it is running you have zero oil pressure? A weak spot with 5.0 Fords is the oil pump drive shaft they should always be replaced in a performance build with an ARP unit,if it snaps or twists you have zero pressure, pull the distributor and check it.

Are you sure all the injector wires are on the correct injectors? Are all the injectors firing.
Put a fuel pressure testor on the service port.
Check for vacuum leaks

#7 was dead prior to rebuild. Couldnt keep a plug firing in it.

I thought about fuel pressure being the cause of cutting out and hard starting. Haven't tested yet and won't have time soon. Would timing being off cause that? Not sure when it starts advancing....

The 5.0HO uses the same firing order of the 5.8L! 13726548 If you used the firing order 15426378 it will do much of the same thing. Run poorly, and spit back through the intake.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Used HO firing Order. Same as before rebuild. Steel gear for roller valve setup. Still have stock distributor just in case but it is supposed to be plug & play
