The shop i work at has been getting quite a few of these. The rockers wear badly at the pushrod pocket. eats up pushrod also, must be replaced.. Another thing has been wear on the plastic lifter guides, on high mile motors
The rockers on these engines are self adjusting so unfortunately you can not adjust them. Crane sells a trunion kit that may work on the 5.3 which takes care of those pesky needle bearings that like to fail / fall out. Simple install and inexpensive.
If you have an aftermarket cam in the vehicle you may need different length pushrods depending on how high you went with the lift.
Typically a noise in these is from the lifters not the rockers but in higher mileage cases.
I believe companies sell pushrods with a larger oil passage for this type of an issue as well to make sure there is proper lubrication at the rocker.
