A stock '55's WMS is 62.0".
I am looking at buying a 1969 1/2 ton 2wd 12-bolt which I read is only 60.5" WMS.
I expect Drum Brakes would be OK, which is what it has. But it is 6 lug, so I'll need new axles and maybe an LDS or Locker with about 3.42 or 3.55 gears. The power will be a modified '69 SBC 302 (ex-Z/28) with Roller Cam and 3-2s driving thru a TH700R4 = 3.06 1st, 1.63 2nd, 1.00 3rd, and 0.70 4th gears.
My concern is the 60.5" 12 bolt versus the 62.0" OEM or even my 61.0" '77 Nova 10 bolt. Not sure what to do to fit her in or even if I should look elsewhere for a wider 12-bolt?
Your opinions, suggestions, knowledge for me please. Murf = world's oldest 1st time street rodder ! ? !
nothing wrong with the 10 bolt...used a lot of 'em in the 55-59 chevy pickups..
i SURE wouldn't go to the trouble and expense of the 69 1/2 ton 12 bolt...
