5 speed

Hi I'm Jeff. I have looked at your forums here over the past few years and I have gotten help because of others projects. I have a few cars myself I tinker on. I have a '74 Barracuda ,'92 Roadmaster wagon (rebuilt vortec, dual exhaust, flat black) and now I got a '71 monte carlo. I have had this car for about a year and now I'm in the planning stages of this project. I really want to make this a 5(or 6 Speed) car. THE car has the original motor, 350 4 bolt high nickel block. I am going to rebuild this engine better than stock but nothing to radical. Could anyone make a suggestion on what would be a good donor trans for this vehicle.
Thanks for your help.

Jeff

i prefer the t-56s out of the ls1 trans ams or camaros, but you half to use the lt1 clutch and fly wheel, its a little pricey but you will love the results,

To use a ls1 t56 you need to have the input shaft shortened or use a custom bell housing like quicktime #6023. Or change the input shaft and mid plate to ones from an lt1 unit and use the lt1 bell and clutch and flywheel. Or you buy an adapter plate that has a bearing collar and use the a stock bell housing with an extended pilot bushing. The cheapest and easiest way it to find a complete lt1 setup but if you have a 2 piece seal block you will need an expensive flywheel. I've been through every option of making a ls1 t56 work with a sbc.

You sound like you've "been there done that." Whats the next best overdrive manual trans for a 2pc seal SBC...in a C10 truck? I have a Borg Warner Super T-10 now and need a freeway gear.
