5 speed gm trans

I bought a 5 speed trans at a swap meet, it has a piece of tape on it that says GM BW 75. The problem is I can't find any info on a Borg Warner 75? Is there such a thing? If so is it light, medium or heavy duty? Thanks for any help that you can give me.

It wouldn't happen to be a T-5 would it.

re: 5 speed gm trans

How many teeth are there on the input shaft?

Is reverse up and to the left or down and to the right?

re: 5 speed gm trans

The input shaft has 10 splines and it has the same mounting as a muncie 4 speed, after closer inspection the BW75 may be BW T5.

Sounds like one of the older T-5's, I believe Monza's had them. Once you get around 250 ft/lbs put to it, you will more than likely run into input shaft bearing problems. I consider these light duty transmissions. I have one laying in a trash pile behind the shop.

re: 5 speed gm trans

i have the same transmission, and i just bought it off ebay, it came out of a v8 83 camaro and im in the process of rebuilding it, and ive been told that there are heavier dutier bearings that can be substituded for the old ones, and should be able to take a little bigger beating. how much power are you planning on running through it???
