50 Ford Tudor Pwr Steering Conersion

Help!!!!!

Does anyone know of a late model power steering gear box that will fit on a 1950 Ford Tudor frame, I don't care if I have to do some "fab'ing"or mods to the box or frame as long as it will work. Seeing how this is the wifes car I'm in the dog house untill I can get something figured out. I personaly dont care about pwr steering, My 71 Merc Comet GT clone I've built has no pwr steering, brakes etc, but the old ford needs pwr steering so the old lady can drive it. I'm an auto A/C Mechanic I've have been bulding Hot Rods and Muscle Cars for Years. So what ever it takes to make a pwr steering box work I will do.

PLEASE HELP....ANY COMENTS WILL BE APPRICIATED

It's expensive, but do-able.

-GEARHEADS PRODUCTS-

Anything else will have to be fabbed.

3 options

1. Is Volvo power box but they are getting harder to find and the fab at the box to column is kind of dicy as the Volvo is a 90 degree box and the original ford as you know is not even close. Fatmans has a kit but I am not a big fan of the linkage they require, too many bind points. (still will develop bumpsteer)

2. Power Caviler/Interpid rack and pinion (rear steer rack with center steer is closest to original geometry and will eliminate bumpsteer too) set up seems to be better but not the best way when looking at a BIG BLOCK car so if you have a small block it looks good and doesnt require pan rework as it sits in the same package as the steering rod package

3. Gearheads is closest to the original for 51, 52. but alot of parts to keep up to snuff. (still will develop bumpsteer)

If you dont want to go to a stub and want power I think the rack is the most resonable way to go.

I change my 51 merc to power steering.using a 70s f100 ford power box.
I did not hook up the pump for a while latter, the steering got very easy with out the pump.
I was wondering if you got a latter model modern steering box if it work well with out the power

I have a 53 mercury & i used a p/s box from a 88 isuzu trooper.It is small &
it works great, i even took the pitman arm & it fit right on the ford drag link
with no trouble at all. This is a easy install.I bought my ISUZU p/s box
from a junkyard & it only cost me $25.If you cant find an isuzu box
here are some others that are small & will work.89-93 Amigo p/s
