50 merc hood pull

My merc is so stiff [hood cable] that it takes two hands to pull it. It has a chrome t- handle, Has anyone ever , tried replacing just the cable, before i remove it and mess it up.If i cut the end off, at the hood catch it won't be long enough to use again, i can't find repops of this particular cable .in any of my parts house books!! bob s Any help as usual appreciated. thank you

Mcmaster Carr has push/pull control cables so try them for something suitable..

Before you replace the cable try spraying some PB blaster in there and working it back and forth if it isnt kinked or frayed,that should do it.

I greased up the upper hood center pin and adjusted it. I hadn't ever put grease on that pin when i first built the car, Seems a whole lot better-and i'll look again And see if there is enough fall front to back on this cable for blaster to run the length of the inner cable---which i know was never oiled either when built also thank you bob s

Once you have everything lubed up and working freely it still might not work ez but its the best place to start with a 60 yr old car.....the latch may need adjusting a tad..chances are if you have to slam the hood to get it closed thats the main problem.lube those hinges too...
