Post 500 in Chevy AD Truck. Aussie seeks help

Guys need some advice from someone who has put a 500 Caddy in a AD Truck. Have seen Wynne Boyers elsewhere on this site. Wynne are you there? Need to know how much fabrication and cutting will be needed etc. Im guessing chassis will need strengthening. Am told that the 400 or is it a 425? box from the same donar car would be best.

Im aware that if the motor comes out of a FWD car I need a drivers side exhaust manifold, pan, pan pick up and oil filter mount. Is there anything else. Also understand that a 71 and up Eldorado motor has lower compression then 70. Is my info correct?

Thanks in advance and I hope you are all safe and well.
Cheers
Pete

This is a good board for Caddy info. They may or may not have info on the particular swap you want to do, but they can help you with the engine questions for sure.

I think the compression dropped in 72 after the 71 models. oops, I just checked and they do have the 8.5 compression. Just look for 68-70 heads from either a 472 or 500. They will give you the higher compression. I seem to recall that the better heads are on the early(68, 69) 472s.

Actually using the lower compression motor is the plan. Im not so worried about HP, more a big flat torque curve. Thanks for the links, I've sussed them out. What Im really after is someone who has done the swap into an AD truck. Does anyone know a good export crew in Long Beach that I can contact? Cheers mates.

When you say Ad do you mean All wheel drive. If so go to the projects page here http://www.500cid.com/mts/Rides/index.htm and there are a couple of guys who have done that. plenty of details there. One of them, the one highest up the page has an email address for you to contact the guy who put it together if the address is still current.

Alot of the info would be similar to a big block transplant, except for the motor mounts and a few other things. The problems are similar because the blocks are not hugely different size wise and some of the solutions are similar. In fact MTS sells header conversion pieces to convert a big block chevy header to a caddy header. And I assume you would likely find BB chevy headers for your application. That would solve part of your problem. I don't know, but you would likely have to do a little work on the oil pan as well.

I would probably call AL at Maximum torque specialties and ask him your questions. I am sure it has come up before.

Have read up on the MTS site and it looks like they will be getting an order or two from me soon but am still looking for someone who has done this swap. That is a 500 motor into 48 - 55 chev truck. Cheers for the help so far.
