Looking for advice on a camshaft upgrade for the zz502/502 crate motor. Motor is well broken in, runs very strong, but is way under-cammed. Would rather not change valve springs, pushrod length, studs, etc. unless it is really going to be worth the trouble. Was also thinking different intake (RPM air gap?) and carb (speed demon 850 dp?) may match up better with a cam change? Hard to get any kind of advice from GM that seems reliable. Chevelle is in the high 11's, looking to get into the low 11's. Thanks.:mwink:
If you are looking for top end power go with a single plain manifold. Like Edelbrock Torker II or Victor JR......... I am running the Torker II on my 530 HP SBC 355. Made a huge difference from the air gap on my setup....... Just my two cents........
Here are the 2 cams from GM. I would stay with the GM intake its better than the Edelbrock. Get a Good Holly carb for it,
If you can afford it get one with annular booster's for response.
14096209 Hydraulic Flat Tappet "502"
This hydraulic flat tappet "502" is a good street high-performance and marine cam used in the Gen V 502 H.O. engine P/N 10185085. The duration at lash point in degrees (intake/exhaust) is 328/324; duration at .050" tappet lift (intake/exhaust) is 220/220; and maximum lift with 1.7:1 rocker ratio (intake/exhaust) is 500/500.
Valve lash is zero/zero and lobe centerline is 115 degrees.
24502611 Steel Roller
This steel roller is for the 502 and 454 H.O. engines. (Must use distributor gear P/N 10456413.) The duration at .050" tappet lift (intake/exhaust) is 211/230; and maximum lift with 1.7:1 rocker ratio (intake/exhaust) is 510/540.
