51 Chevy 1/2T Pick Up - Front Clip Question

Hello, -first time poster-
I was wondering if anyone can share their experiences dealing w/ sub-frame (and rear end) swaps in this era (47-53) of Chevy pickups. I want to perform this swap on my old truck and am trying to gather as much info as possible before I really get into it. Just this weekend I looked at a 53 similar to mine w/ a Camaro front clip and rearend swap (seemed to work). However, I have read about the Malibu frame being a closer match to the truck frame dimensions. Someone also mentioned the pacer front end being a fairly strait forward install. A healthy V8, disc brakes, power steering etc.., are the main reasons for the swap. Any info. regarding which models might make the best donor vehicle would be great. Heck, any related "modernizing" ideas would be appreaciated too.
Thanks
Mark

The easiest way to go is a Mustang II IFS in my opinion. Did my '53 in about 6 hours. You can see the install here.

51 Chevy 1/2T Pick Up - Front Clip Question

The Stovebolt site is a great one, check it out. You won't be sorry.

http://www.stovebolt.com/

I can't quite remember but I think someone is offering a kit to use S 10 components. It may be using the whole frame? Can't seem to find the link. If I do I'll add it at later.

You are new to the site so aren't aware that this truck is one of the most discussed vehicles here. Every conceivable discussion about front and rear ends has been conducted. Do a search on the board and you will find hours of reading material and great info. I am in the process of rebuilding my truck and you can see some of the things I have done here in my Project Journal. Be sure to start a journal of your own to show us your progress.

Unfortunately very slowly. The original truck I had I ended up selling because I was offered twice what I paid for it to begin with. I picked up a 49 3 window and a 51 5 window (cab and front clip only - no boxes). I didn't do my homework enough on them and I found out after getting into them that there is tons of rot/rust.

I also moved out of town (100 miles away) to take a job and finish school. When I do find time to get home I usually have other projects or family plans so I don't get to focus more ime on them. I am thinking if I can get out of these two for the right kind of money I might make that extra investment on a AD truck that needs very little body work. Until then they sit out with a For Sale sign and I do a little bit here and there. Maybe I will get far enough in time with this little here and there stuff that I won't have to Sell them.
