51 chevy weatherstripping help

I got a 1951 chevy 2-door sport coupe for restoration. The car came with almost two full sets of exterior chrome and interior window trim that was already removed but no headliner or weatherstripping. I ordered what I was told was a complete set of weatherstripping for the car from steele rubber products. When I was making sure all the seals were correct, I found the door seals only sealed the bottom half of the door (as if it were a non post car). I called the company and they said that the door seals are correct but I am missing the roof rail seals (for the top halfe of the doors). They also said there no one currently makes these seals. I am not sure what to do about this problem but I am sure other people have run in to this before, Please help.

Are you sure they came with a side/top door rubber seals? Many old cars did not come with rubber weather stripping, rather depended on a labyrinth in the door jamb and the fat upholstery welt to do the job. That is the way 50s Chevy pickups did it as did all the 30s cars I have seen.

Ben,

My 49 Chevy does have top and bottom rubber. You can get it at the National Chevy Association on Arcade Street in St Paul Minnesota. I cannot remember the phone number off hand, but they have a web site. They also hit many of the shows throughout the country. There are other sources out there that I have found in the past. Good luck with your project.

Ron
