51' Ford F-1 Engine
I need to know how to remove the engine from the tranny. It appears there is a 6" ring between the engine and the trans with a second row of bolts? do I remove just the row closest to the engine or what?

Ed, it has been a while since I have worked on one of these.. The ring you are talking about is called the bell housing and inside it is the flywheel/clutch face, clutch disc, throw out bearing, and pressure plate. The large part of the bell housing is bolted to the rear of the engine block. The tranny is bolted to the small part of the bell housing. If I remember correctly, the truck did not have a torque tube with drive shaft inside it. If so, remove the front of the drive shaft from the tranny, block up the rear of the motor and the tranny, remove the bolts from the trany mounting bracket and unbolt the tranny from the bell housing. You should be able to slide the tranny straight back until the input shaft is clear of the bell housing. You may want to notice the position of input shaft splines so you can get real close to shaft alignment when you re-assemble. If there is a torque tube, then you will have to remove the motor and tranny as a unit and seperate out of the vehicle.
