A friend is building a early 50s truck with a front clip from an old dodge of plymouth. I will see If I can get some info for you.

Bill,

I did a '53 but it's frame is wider.. you can see what I did at http://jniolon.clubfte.com look in the left frame for the article... also try the message boards on ford-truck.com... go to the early ford forum and ask there.. I know there are guys there that have done the f-1 conversions..

hope it helps

john

The 51-52 Ford truck frame is narrower than later years. You would be better off using a mustang II crossmember kit with the mustang control arms/spindles etc.. The mustang has rack and pinion steering that is compact, Mounts to the front of the crossmember, is easily serviced and does not take much space. The dodge/chrysler has a steering box mounted on the subframe assembly that can interfer with locating the engine correctly when used on narrow frame vehicles. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PROJECT.

Cool

Hey Bill, sounds like you have your work cut out for you. I suggest trying the hot rod/street rod truck magazines for pictures and more information.

The frame in the 48-52 trucks is quite a bit narrower than the 53's forward which frequently use the Aspen torsion bar set up. So, I am immediately skeptical that it will fit. I used a first gen camaro front clip on mine and later narrowed it with FatMan Fabs. a arms. It works but in the end is still a $700 ticket because of the narrowed A arms. After all I have been through, I would suggest a Must II kit at whatever level of completion you feel you can afford or do yourself. You get a lot of options, the right width (you can always make them wider with different wheel back spacing)and a couple of different disc brake options. You also can get disc brake kits to fit your current front end and dropped spindles.
