`51 Studebaker pu front end??'s

My little brother has a `51 stude pu he wants to build. He is on a tight budget. Being big brother with all the tools... I get to help . He wants to put a camaro clip under it. I think it needs a front end with a hub width of about 58.5 inches. I was thinking that a GM later model el camino/regal/etc would work. Does anyone know what the hub width is on these? Has anyone used it? What about airbags (future mod) and getting a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern? Thanks for the help!

I won't do that. it's too narrow. A friend did that and it looked terrible. He ended up buiilding new wider A arms. The rear kick up left him with no bed.

Best way is to get out your measuring tape and measure these frames....see which is the best fit for your Stude.

camaro clip

I used an 80 Z-28 clip on my 49 stude pickup. I built in 5 inches of drop at the frame by basically z'ing the frame. Turned out to be 1 inch too much. If you want to run air bags, or slam the thing pretty low I would not use the camaro clip, it's too wide. I don't remember the track width. Now I have to buy either $800 narrowed control arms or an 1800 set of custom wheels. I am running 17" rims all around. i strongly reccomend the mustang 2. Save your money and do it the right way, you will be happier in the end. By the way, after the rebuild of the front end, and materials cost, I only saved about $300. Let me know if you want pics.
