510 BBC Left Bank not firing
I have a freshly rebuilt 454 that was bored out to a 510. MSD Crank trigger, MSD Digital 6 plus Ing, Pro billet Dizzy, and a FAST EZ EFI direct port injection system. SO with that little bit of background here is my problem..

The left 4 cylinders are not or do not seem to be firing.. ????
I can start the motor and after 30 second to a min of rough running I shut the motor off and the left headers are still cold while the right 4 cylinders are hot.
There was fuel dumping out of the left header as well. ( that problem seems to have stopped).

1. I have pulled the 4 plugs and they all have spark.
2. I know these four cylinders are getting fuel ( because it still drains a little out of the headers.
3. I used a Snap On Smoke machine on the motor ..No air leaks however smoke only came out of the left header ... Nothing from the right header.
4. Valve lash set to 0 lash then 1/2 turn more.
5. I have swapped the injector wiring harness from side to side with no change.
6. Timing is set @ 15 degrees @ idle, and firing order is correct.
Any Input or ideas would be greatly appreciated .........

MSD Crank trigger, MSD Digital 6 plus Ing, Pro billet Dizzy?

vern0116 09-25-2012 06:44 PM

Ya... MSD digital 6 plus ignition box, MSD pro billet distributor running off a MSD Flying magnet Crank trigger. Did I not make that clear somehow?

BTW if the left side is cold, how did you set the timing?threads like this should be deleted

bore a 454 to 510? I wonder if anyone will answer, lol. firing order is what? left side doesnt one will fall for this

vern0116 09-25-2012 06:51 PM

"fall for this " what are you talking about.? It is the problem Im having if you cant help why reply ?

vern0116 09-25-2012 06:53 PM

i didnt say i wasnt getting spark to the #1 cylinder I said the odd cylinders didnt seem to be lighting off. Header not getting hot and motor running like crap.

You bored this factory 454 block .250", and the motor runs, but not all that well on just the even number cylinders, the right bank, nothing on the left bank firing, yet you have spark and need to be more specific, there's something you're forgetting to tell us.

Ok once again im not seeing the problem here with my post? Im asking for help with a problem im having and getting nothing but NAY sayer responses. Maybe I didn't explain it enough or the right way.
the motor was a 454 it was bored out .60 to a 4.310 bore and has a 4.350 stroke. As for the left bank not firing, thats the problem im having with the motor. I will take video today ( motor running then a inferred thermometer reading of the header tubes) and post it or a link to it. Why would someone make something like this up..

Have you done a compression test?
Is the FAST setup as a sequential or batch fire?
It doesnt have some kind of reverse rotation marine cam in there does it?

vern0116 09-26-2012 09:13 AM

Just got cylinders 3,5, and 7 running. Valve lash was messed up keeping valves open not allowing compression to happen. Now #1 and #2 tubes are not getting hot. I'm about to compression test them .....I'm thinking valves again

Your explanation left a lot out, initially your stated it was bored to 510. We still don't know how you timed it with #1 cylinder not firing.

Also, if the valves were being held open you would have had major backfiring either through the intake or exhaust, depending on which valves.

vern0116 09-26-2012 10:02 AM

There was backfiring thru the throttle body on start up only. I set the timing with the timing marks on the balancer and the mag pick up. I'm also getting spark to the #1 cylinder so the timing light worked and I checked timing like that. As best as I could. And I was corrected on my math it's not a 510 it's a 507.7. For all those who would rather say I'm full of it than to ask about singeing I left out of the post

vern0116 09-26-2012 10:04 AM

I'm not a engine builder this motor was left to me by my brother I'm just trying to get it running. I'm having issues I've never seen before. And like I said I'm not a pro. That's why I was asking for help

vinniekq2 09-26-2012 10:47 AM

the 507.7 is just the number from the calculator to confirm that 510/509 is correct. The numbers that manufacturers claimed were rounded numbers, not the new GM 5.7 is not called a 350 anymore as they changed the bore and stroke its now a 346,we still call it a 350.
We all seem to have gotten off to a bad start so I will say sorry for my original posts and change that to welcome to the forum I hope everyone can pitch in and help you.
forgive us as we have had a couple trolls post on the boards and when we see first posts from first timers that are difficult to understand,I wont say we,,,,ai may have jumped to the wrong conclusion,so once again,,,sorry.

Hey no problem I totally understand. Like I said Im not a engine builder and I didn't describe what i was deal with very well, and left out the stroked part.

SO to update I got 6 of 8 cylinders firing ( headers getting hot) and motor running alot more smooth. However i guess #2 wasnt firing as well because after i got 3,5, and 7 going ( after valve adjustment ) #1 and #2 headers are not getting hot.. DiD a compression test and had no compression.. So Im going to readjust those valves again tomorrow..
