518 transmission not shifting

I have a Ram van with a 518 and I had a guy come and rebuild it. After he was done everything seemed ok at first then it would not come out of first gear. So know if you let it sit for a while you can go two blocks and everything is fine then it just starts getting worse and worse then all you have is first gear and reverse and nothing else. It doesnt slip it just will not shift after a couple of blocks. Any help would be appreciated !!!!!

would need to know if this trans is a RH or RE model.. RE unit would have a round electrical connector at the case 8 pins.
'
RH would have a 3 pin connector , usually oblong shape.

RE trans not shifting I would suspect the electronic governor pressure control.

Were the electronics replaced during rebuild?

I have many problems with aftermarket electronics on Mopar trans.. I only use the OEM stuff, especially the governor pressure control

96 should be an re unit with the 8 pin connector. and it should have the round 4 pin govenor pressure sensor and transducer plugs 96-00, and 00-up should be the rectangular/square connector.
