Yes it is. I bought it used in about 1980 or so. I guess it is an antique by now.

This one had some Age on it when I bought it. I had hired a guy to weld a 55 Chevy conv together that I was using a hardtop to fix it with. At the time I did not know how to weld. The fellow I hired got in financial trouble and sold me a fan, table top drill press, torch and a/c welder for next to nothing. I still have the torch and the fan is the one you see in my window in the shop.

This the only torch I have ever welded with.

Managed to get the front LH body mount out along with the floor board and the rest of the body bolts. I could not get the cowl to move forward though. I suspect the steering column is holding it. Tomorrow I hope to loosen the column mount and see if I can move it forward a little and get my door gaps equal. Then I have 5 body mounts to make.

Fortunately the frame mount on this side is much better than the passenger side even though this door is much worse. Go figure.

John, I just wanted to comment on your talent and patience working the junk out and remaking by hand. Cool work. Are you welding with the torch and a steel rod or arc welding this stuff?Nice car too, rare.

So far I have only used the torch to get the rusty bolts out or do a little cutting of rusty metal. I have been very successful getting it apart for which I am thankful. All the welding to this point has been done with my Mig welder.

I am old enough that at one time I did all my welding with acetylene and CC rods. You can do great work with O/A but it is time consuming and does generate more heat which equates to more shrinkage to control. For the floor boards it his hard to beat the MiG.

John, earlier you talked about tipping an edge with english wheel. You said to put cardboard under the lower wheel? Where exactly do you put it, and what purpose does it serve?

I will get take a picture and try to make it clearer.

The cardboard goes under the axle of the lower wheel to **** it up on it edge just a little. When you tip the metel up the lower wheel provides support under your work piece.

I will post a couple of pictures in a few minutes.

To form a curved angle on a piece of metal here is one method using an English Wheel:

Place a shim under the lower axle to tip the wheel.



Now you can work your metal through the anvils using a back and forth motion. After a couple of passes you will begin to get a little distortion in the work piece. This can be corrected with the shrinker/stretcher jaws.




Finally, you will need to complete your bend with a hammer and dolly because the English Wheel will not allow you to make a full 90 degree bend. This method will allow you to form a lip for a door skin or similar piece whether or not the panel is flat or has a compound curve.

Not sure if you know it or not Mr.John.. But they also make a tipping die for your beadroller for that as well..
