This is going to be the worst part of building the 53. GM used chrome around the windows, vent windows. instrument bezel, speaker grill, glove box door, plus the grill and tail lights. This is not cheap to re-do and there is no way to cut corners. Ford used a lot more stainless than GM unfortunately.

I transferred the cardboard template to a piece of 18 ga and painted the bottom sides with Weld thru Primer. Drilled the floor pan so I could plug weld it together. This way the welds will not show under the car.

Here is the assembly bolted in ready to be welded in place. Now I can finish the bottom of the A pillar and I will be ready to make/install the outer and inner rockers. From there we should be on a roll. Whaaa Hooo.

It really would be good to have a good parts car. If I were going to restore mine it would be great. The problem I have is so much of what I need is conv and/or hardtop related parts. I would love to have the front clip from that car and probably a lot of the floor pans are the same. Also, I suspect the dash chrome on that car is nice. I am not sure there are 5000 dollars worth but I can't afford it now anyway. I truly appreciate you thinking about me.

Anyway, We wouldn't want to make this too easy would we?

John

You should know better than to make that comment in THIS thread....

I posted a series of pics of a '65 Mustang at work earlier this year that I started with the A pillars, roof and quarters... anything can be saved if you have the determination.....and someone else's money...

I prefer the '55-56 Nomads over the '57. To me, the '57 wings look out of place on a wagon...

For me, it makes the job easier. I don't have to wait and save up, I just order 4k in repro panels and then modify them to fit...
