Post 53 F100 rearend What do i need?

This is my first project truck. When i bought the truck it did not have a bed on it. So i really cant determine what rearend width I need. I would like to have disc brakes already on it. I dont know which one to pick from 9inch, 8, or 8.8 I dont plan on running real wide tires on the back maybe 9 inch wide no wider than that. I hope some has fixed up a F100. Please Help.

Thanks

That worked okay for you? Another person told me the same thing. The salvage yard near me has a couple of those over there for a 100 bucks.

Cool re: 53 F100 rearend What do i need?

You can also use a 57 to early 70's Ford truck rearend.Thy are 9in. and bolt right in.I used a 57 rearend in my 53 F-100.They do have a bigger bolt pattern than the Granada.Good luck on your truck. If there is anything else I can help you with let me know....Lash

Hey Don,
I'm building a '54 F100, and eventually I'll be swapping in a rearend. Please tell me/us more about the Granada rearend swap. Do you have to relocate the spring perches, or narrow it? Are the axle tubes larger, do I need larger U bolts etc.?
Do they come with disc brakes, or is there a kit available. Are the Flanges the same distance apart? Did you have to shorten or lengthen your drive shaft?
I know, lotsa questions, but I'm real interested in that swap. I had no idea they put 9" rearends in Granadas.

Some of the F100 guys around here ( I was one......56 F100 Big Window..a few years back ) are using the Ford Explorer rear end. Correct width and has disc brakes..factory. The going price in my area for them is $300 or so.

They are NOT the old favorite 9". Ford quit making 9 inchers almost 20 years ago. The Explorer is a new type, Spicer variety and most are limited slip. Because all new Explorers are overdrive transmission equipped....... the gear ratios are good for us Rodders.
