Post 54 belair rearend replacement

any suggestions on a good match for a 54 belair with a iron headed lt1 and 700r4 tranny? i'm leaning towards something from the 68-77 nova rearend area. not being built for strip, strictly a cruiser with get up and go, and reasonable gearing for interstate driving. i've talked with a local guru and he gives the thumbs up on the 700r4 wiht the lt1, but the rear end he put in his 54 gets close enough to the wheelwells that he can't put the fender skirts on. i'm fairly sure i'm looking at something less than 60" wide. thanks for the help.
