The 3100 was the half ton while the 4100 was the 1 !/2 ton. I am not sure what may be different in the front clips. Here is a website by one of the members on this board. He has collected and scanned many chevy shop manuals and more info on these trucks and old chevy cars. Go there and follow the links and you should be able to find the info you are looking for.

The front clips for the 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton models are the same. Above that the fenders, grill and hood are larger. The cab is the same as the smaller capacity models though.

The cab and hood are the same. Fenders, grill and bumper are not. 55 first series parts are also the same as 54.54 and 55 1st series fenders are unique to those years. Good luck, Jim.
