54 Chevy Window Question

Hi,
I am new to the bulleting board and live in CO. Thanks in advance for answering my question about my 1954. I am building a 1954 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup truck and want full size windows. I was told that I can buy a 1947-1950 doors and they have the single window. I dont want to go to that expense. I have good doors now. will a single glass fit down into the door. it looks like I need to cut out the window plate on the inside middle of the door and cut back the vent window attachments.

I have purchase a universal powder window lift kit but no side channels.

Can I buy a universal channel with felt for front and rear of the door. Who sells this type of product. Would you please provide a web address or phone number

What additional modification do I need to do to make this work?

Can I buy a 47-50 glass window and will it fit my 1954 orginal doors.

Thanks very much for your answers. Darrell

Obviously you'll have to make a glassrun for the leading edge of the door. And yes you'll have to completely remove the vent windows including the piece they mount to which would prevent a full window going in there.

For channel I'd take a browse through Steele Rubber Products catalog(http://166.82.96.3/homeframes.html). I see no reason if you successfully duplicate the earlier style window why you couldn't use the earlier style channel too.

Seeing as you have to buy the glass etc anyways, you might also want to take a look at nolimit.net who has a conversion for the 47-54 style trucks. It's not cheap but by the time you add all the components up you'd need and the research and effort you'd have to go to to duplicate it to make it work it might be your best option. You can see the kit here: http://nolimit.net/prodinfo.asp?number=GLS-4754
