hey guys i have a question about the trans in my 54 coronet what is it and how do you work the thing it appears to be 3on the tree but it doesnt act like it gyromatic, fluidmatic, automatic??? please help
It may well be one of the old Fluid Drives....they had a clutch...I think they called it a Safety Clutch. Anyway, you can shift it like a three speed manual ot you can put it in high ( I think it was ) and it will shift itself. Best way to describe it is...it was like having a straight shift automatic.
My apologies fella's.I interpreted the post as"how do you work on those".
Henry is right in what he says. That allpar still a great web site for old Mopars though.
I remember you sure can't lay rubber with those ol' fluid drives
Dodge had 2 trannys available , (at least behind the hineous "RedRam" V-8) One was called Gyromatic, the other Gyrotorque. Both worked like an Auto-stick,using the clutch pedal for inital gear selection(reverse / forward) You accelerated and let up on the gas and it shifted. If I remember correctly the Gyrotorque used engine oil.
