54 International R-110 Transmission
I just bought a '54 International with a beautifully restored engine, and decent body but the tranny is untouched. I was told by the local transmission guy that the truck is worthless and I might as well scrap is because transmissions are impossible to get for the old internationals.
is this true? the tranny is fine now, but it does make "old truck noises", which the mechanic told me is nothing to worry about. But I'm worrying anyway--I don't want to spend the money for body work/painting and then have an irreparable tranny issue.
Oh, and now has a flatbed with duallys--dont' know how that happened to a 1/2 ton pickup
Farm size trucks used universal transmissions, a friend put a SBC in his dually and used the Chevy truck bellhousing and it bolted up to the International trans. if you used a international truck bell housing you might be able to use a truck trans , granny first gear not desirable unless you are going to be climbing hills, pulling out logs,

Thanks for the help....then why would the local gear "expert" tell me its impossible to interchange transmissions on Internationals with other transmissions? He told me they did everything different than the other manufacturers and didn't allow after market products...
THat's good news if I can use another truck tranny--and yes I'd be happy to skip the granny gear...would love to replae with an overdrive
