Thanks for the help ogre Thats sounds a little out of my league though. I saw the panel in no limits catalog to cover it but I think the windshield wiper holes are closed also. It might be easier to cut holes for my wipers though. I have the original one though so I might try it ,its free.

J Vale- Nice tip! I'm still working my way through the cowl cancer on my '59. Snce it's all apart anyway, I think I'll seal up my louvers like you did. I've heard of this, but never seen it done.

gator: i was going to mention that DD's truck is longbed, then i checked your pics and noticed that gator's truck is longbed too. that would be a rare find indeed. the longbed side mount is lower and the cut out in the fender is shorter but lower. i also heard from a friend of mine who started out in 57 as a tech at a dealership, that most or all of the sidemounts were dealer option. dealer would install the mount, fender & paint them in house. most of the hotrodders don't like the side mounted spare.

DD: your 'new' truck is a 58 but i see 59 fender spears on it. the front sheet metal is different too. maybe a frontend swap was in it's past or maybe it's a 59. my 58 had 59 spears on it & a 59 hood wing. couldn't figure it out until i rebuilt my truck. my truck had been wrecked & abused. a ladder rack or something big had been mounted on the cowl. and (luckily for me) newer and better front sheetmetal had been installed too.

Now if any of y'all would like to mount your spares on the side, I have the whole setup, inc. the spare mount and fender with cutout. What I'm looking for is the drivers side LWB fender without the cutout. I'll be running the late model saddle tank and mounting the spare under the bed. Trade?

I agree Ogre that the bed mounts are cool. Even if I do not find one I'll make one for my truck. Then again I want one on each side!

Aren't the fenders on the long wheel base the same as the short wheel base trucks?

Ogre the truck may or may not be a 58 as I have not checked yet.The front clip has been changed for sure and is perfect not rusted at all.My son just does not want a truck at all.He wants a 78 camaro.I will most likely use the front clip and frame on mine as my 58 frame is bent and my fenders have rust that needs to be repaired.First build the easy one then see what is left.I have another short fleet side box on a 59 frame that was made into a trailer so I have plenty of options and will have plenty of time to play in the shop when I retire in 7 years.Gator I don't want a fender mounted spare so PM me and lets make a deal.

Nice score on the 58!! My '59 is slowly coming along. I'm working on the suspension now. I installed a 4" dropped axle a few months back.

Zimmo , I love that big Olds in your truck, I had a 57 4X4 years ago and I put a 455 Olds in it , loved it tons of torque.

Gene, Yahooooo! Redneck coona$$ meets the bushmen of Alaska. The skid plate for the rear tank would be a must. I have a side saddle tank I am going to try and fit on the truck also. If I can get it on I may forgo the rear tank. As far as the tires I am not looking to put massive tires on the truck just enough to get a little clearance than stock.

Ant....THAT IS A NICE LOOKING TRUCK. I really like the red. I vote for the red exterior and black interior.

Hey Gator Man, Got some catching up to do, since I got back from Dega I been in a funk. I'm jealous cause ya'll are making progress on your trucks. Ain't got the cash to do much on the truck, but I pet it everyday and have a few root beers to plan it. Been to Southland in Houma a few times for some of the big events back in the day. But we got old faithful State Capital Dragway alot closer w/ NHRA events. I like to just go on test and tune or grudge match nights. We also have a newer dragstrip in Belle Rose called No Problem Raceway. They built that place on some high ground surrounded by a swamp full of alligators. Its real nice but I'm waiting for a alligator to get on the track someday. Ha. Nolan Oh, I just finished eating a big bowl of red bean gumbo. I bet you ain't never ate it.
