as soon as i get it back to my shop i'll blow the body apart and media blast it to see exactly what i have to work with. i think my direction with this project will be nice cruiser with a 400-450 hp 383 sbc. i'm really loving the amount of aftermarket and reproduction parts available for these trucks

Been a while

Hey Guys,
Its been a while since I posted but I keep reading this thread. I just moved my truck to my new office/shop area. I posted some pics of the truck outside and in the space. I look forward to having a dedicated space just for the truck! Now I know the space isn't huge...but its mine! Later guys.

Hey double D I will be getting with you on the sway bar mounts you made. I need to make some also and get rid of the cheap looking one I have now.

Here is a link to one of the pics in the new space

DD, hope everything goes well.

My dad is going thru his second round of Chemo & Radiation. Not a pretty sight, but he claims he is doing well. (he lives in Vegas)

I wish the best for you and your wife.

sway bar

GM made an optional sway bar for the panel trucks from 1955-1959--I know as I found one in the wrecking yard on a panel and bought it..

I've decided to drop the front of the 59 and I bought one of the lowering straight axles. I'm not sure it's going to lower it as low as I want it but I thought I'd give it a try. Soon as I get this Christmas stuff out of the garage I'll be starting the install. Also going to put disc front power brakes along with a new stronger tie rod and tie rod ends.... and rebuilding the king pins. I'll post to the journal. Thoughts are with you DD.

Thanks everybody. My wife's surgery went well and she is resting here at my sisters house in Vegas. We will find out from the biopsy if she needs chemo or not.The doctor said noting else showed up on the PET scan and she did not expect the biopsy to come back positive for cancer. So keep up the prayers.

Dave have you looked at the mono leaf front springs that are supposed to drop the front 4 inches. They may work with the lowered front axle to get it down were you want it

DD........ when I called CPP I asked them what was my best choice for lowering the front end and they told me the lowered axle was by far a better choice than the mono spring but I never thought to ask them about the two combined. The mono takes it down about 4 inches and the lowered axle about 3. 7 inches may be too much. I'll put the axle on and see where I'm at with it. I'm afraid of steering bump or some kind of bind with the steering if I get it down too far. I've never done this before so I'm just guessing. Did get the garage clear of Christmas today so the 59 will be going back to the work table. I've been having withdrawals from not getting to work on my truck.
Dave

PS, my Dad is a survivor of colon cancer of 15 years and my Mother a survivor of breast cancer of 16 years. Mom had chemo and Dad had to undergo radiation. They are both doing great. Keep the faith.

If you have a little help you should be able to pull both at the same time. Just take your time and be careful and you will be alright.
Good luck.

Make sure you have enough hoist to get the motor and tranny high enough to clear the truck. Get the hoist as close to the engine as possible and you may need to let the air out of the tires. My one ton hoist handled my 350 and tranny just fine. Used a leveler between the hoist and engine. Take your time.
