Hey Gator this is what I was hoping for.Guys like me working on trucks like mine.If the trip to Ely ends up being a possibility I will go to the wrecking yard and take some pictures with a tape measure on the frame so you can be sure it is what you want before investing the time an money in a road trip.I spend allot of time and money at this yard so when I am out there in a few weeks for a gas tank I will see what he has and what he wants for it.I will post the pictures and PM the price to you.Well I am loading the truck for a trip to henderson .Super Run is friday so I will drive down today so I am not to tired to have fun on friday.I wont be on the boards again till tuesday of next week. With any luck even more guys will have posted with there projects

Super Run

Here are a couple of the photos I will post more later.I also want to thank Frank the owner of Expert Transmission in Henderson For the use of his shop and all the help from his guys getting the 58 back on the road and off to the show after losing a weight on the drive shat that wiped out the rear bushing and seal in the trans and the yoke on the drive shaft. He let me use the shop bay and lift at no charge and his guys let me work out of their tool boxes and even ran me to and from the parts store and Adams Drive line service to get the drive shaft balanced. Thanks allot guys. You saved the weekend for me.

Cool Rich! Are those the trophies for winning? I think they are due to the big smile on your face and the boy on the side of the truck with a big smile also. Good job! I am posting more pics in my journal from class last night. Post a pic of that loud motor of yours....

Those guys at Expert sound like a bunch of great guys. Nice to know there are still some caring people out there!

Just entered in the Super Chevy Show this weekend in San Antonio.
Not expecting any prizes or trophys, as it is NOT a trailer weenie.
Just got it registered in June---got a bit over 1000 miles on it.
Nothing has broken or fallen off so far (body off frame-completely dissassembled)
Don't know how long before all the bugs are worked out of it---this was my first project.

454HO roller cam crate engine, Tremec TKO 5-spd, 4-whl power disc,
A/C, Tilt, P/S---not quite finished with it yet.
Cool factor of 1000+ (personal opinion--as everyone has a Chevelle)
1959 TEXAS TRUCK license plates.

Next project=66 Elcamino (told you, everyone has a Chevelle)

BTW----I have seen several of the 55 2nd thru 59 trucks running around here in SAT--a few very nice ones--the guy that painted my Elky was working on a 58 sb when I took my car to him.

Brian 59EC that is one sweet El Camino. There was one at the Super Run car show I was at last weekend. It was beautiful. The hood was closed so I didn't get to look under the hood but the paint and body work was flawless.the bed was redone in oak and what looked like marine varnish.I will look over my cd of pictures and videos the club took and post a pic if I can find one.Keep driving and enjoying the sweet 59

Gator412 I took a few pictures of my engine for you and threw in a couple of the interior. It is a bit dirty as I haven't cleaned it since I got back from Vegas. The rocker arm covers have 454 stamped into them But the engine is a balanced and blue printed 427 with 11 1/2 to 1 pistons, cast iron rectangle port heads that have been ported and polished. It has the old edelbrock tarantula single plane manifold and eledlbrock 750 carb with a mallory unilite vacuum advance distributer.I run 10 degrees initial timing with 26 centrifugal advance(36 degrees at 2800)and 16 degrees of vacuum advance for a total of 52 degrees when cruising. The distributer is hooked to manifold vacuum for that street friendly idle. The headers are 69 4x4 big block headers with 1 7/8 primaries,3 inch collectors and the back 2 tubes on the drivers side were cut out and a wrecking yard set was cut up and used to route them around the steering box.I have 2 1/2 inch dual exhaust with(nice and quiet)Napa flow through mufflers.I use a set of 3 inch strait pipes that turn out at the middle of the doors for the roaring engines contest and leave them on while at the show for burn outs and open header cruises. Those cables going to the carb are the stock 58 choke and throttle cables.I have the throttle cable hooked to the fast idle cam so I set the idle on cold mornings.

Wow Richard and Brian, you both have two outstanding trucks! I can only hope (and keep working) to have my truck reach that level.

Howdy! I figured I'd jump in... I have a 59 Apache big window that I bought in July. Don't have it on the road yet but it's close to completion. The PO put a 3in drop straight axle from CPP in and it sits nice. I did buy a late 70's Blazer frame to modernize the ride but the cost of fabbing up mounts and totally rebuilding the front suspension made the straight axle setup attractive for the meantime...I plan on keeping this truck for a long time and maybe in the future I will modernize the ride quality. It won't be a daily driver so I can live with it.

In another forum that I belong to, a couple of guys grafted in a '79 Camaro front end and it apparently matches up great! That will be the way I'd go when the time comes to update! Here's a couple of pics of mine:

BTW, Great thread DD. I'm basically flying by the seat of my Wranglers on all this so I hope I can answer ?'s and get some more knowledge as I go...Thx, J

Texan593 that big window cab sure is nice.I love the looks but you cant get out of the sun when you drive one.I have seen them with the green glass and they really look good.On that strait Axel on the front they make a mono leaf that lowers them 4 1/2 inches.Brothers Trucks has them in there on line catalog.

Well I had to jump in here. Just bought my first 59 Apache Biiiiiig Window. I have fallen in love with this truck. I mainly mess with the 47 through 53 Chevy trucks but I ran across this Big Window in Georgia and went down last week and picked it up. It has a brand new 350 sitting in it pushing close to 400 horses. Tubbed out with 31 inch Mickeeees on the back. I'm looking at dropping that front end to give it a better stance. It is sitting too high in the front and I'm concerned about any problems with the steering once I drop. I think I'm going with the single spring on the front and drop about 4 inches. Gonna leave the rear alone. The Mickys sit inside the wheel well enough. I love the old suspensions. Just sold my 52 five window and it had stock suspension with a 350 / 350 drive train and 410 gears. It was a bottle rocket. So much fun to drive. I'll post some pics of the 59 in my journal as soon as I get a chance. It's corvette yeller. I think it sounds a lot faster than it actually is.
Dave
