Stopped by to do a little catching up. My spring and summer has left the 59 thinking I left home. Lots of parts sitting there waiting to be installed. Sounds like all of you guys are staying busy. I'll catch back up with all of you when I get to go to the garage again.

Hey guys...
That is a pretty cool truck DD...I always liked that GMC front end look better than the Chevy.

Regarding my wiring, I PMed Mr. Horvath as gator suggested, and going by his strong recommendations (and excellent results, as seen on his website) I went ahead and bought the EZ-Wire "EZ-21" kit. It's on its way.

Went camping about an hour outside of town in Arkansas last weekend and saw an awesome 58-59 GMC panel truck off to the side of the road. Didn't stop, I wasn't driving. It would be a nice project, but there was no indication that it was for sale.
Good luck everybody!
-Matt

Gazim...the price of the kit was $185. Before I went ahead with the EZ-Wire, I had Ron Francis mail me a catalog. It has a lot of good information in it and an FAQ in the back, not just wiring systems. Tons of accessories too. I probably would have used one of their systems if I could afford one. If I have the money, I may try to go ahead and buy a nicer distributor and switch it out while the truck is in the garage.

As soon as the kit gets to my door I will start on it and keep you posted. Since this is my first attempt at this type of thing, I'm going to try to take my time. I took all of the wiring out of the truck, so I'm starting from nothing...we'll see how it goes. For other info, here's horvath's: http://alanhorvath.com/54chevy/ezwire_day1.php
His pages about his install are a good read.
Thanks again to gator for telling me about that site!
-Matt

Hello again...
Received the EZ kit in the mail yesterday, so far I just have everything laid out generally on the truck. I need to go to the store for some loom, wire ties, etc. This kit has a lot more wiring than I need (at this point), that's for sure.

I think I will get a Mallory Unilite vacuum advance dist. to replace the cheap one that's there now. The different styles (vacuum, breakerless, elec. ign.) had me a little confused, but I found elsewhere on the forum that basically vacuum advance would be better for the street. If you guys have any opinions about this, please let me know. Thanks!

Matt I run a unilite vacuum advance distributor.Do not hook it up without the Active Power Filter part #29351.Your unilite dist. will fail in a short time without one.

A 48 would be ok but they only look good to me as a 4x4.The 78 body style just does nothing for me.My son Travis thinks the 68 body style is Ugly he wants a 58 or 59 but will settle for 55 to 57 if that is all we can find

Custom El Camino style slab side 57 shop truck

This is our freshly customized and freshly painted shop truck...we call the paint the 20 year old worn off Earl Scheib paint job even though it really is a fresh paint job that can be beat a little to use every day
