My rear tires are 275-60 x15 Dunlop GT Qualifiers on 8 1/2 inch wide American mags , thats about as big as your going to fit in the fenders of a lowered pickup.

Thanks

Thanks again Gene and DoubleDick - That gives me some good info to shoot for. I do plan to re-assemble my bed now and get some measurements. The angle gage I can get next time I'm at Summit - it's less than an hour away from me!
I do have a Chevy 10 bolt that came with the truck - problem is it has drums and I want disc brakes all around. It seems to me the conversion kits are all in the $600 range - I am hoping to find a junkyard rearend for less. Am I off on this? Is there a cheaper conversion or is my junkyard find going to be more?
On a lighter note...I did spray some color on my cab yesterday - a PPG Orange! Not quite the tone I want but close. Need more red to darken it up just a bit. Then again, just about any color is a nice change from primer grey!

any of you guys have to rebuild the lower hinge pockets? they are pretty shot on my truck. i am looking for a thread where somebody did that. i remember earlier in this thread somebody had schematics out of a body manual - i just cant remember who posted it. it would help to see how the parts fit together before i started in on this.
i may just scrap the old hinges and install hidden hinges. truckin magazine had a series of articles on a 57 chevy with corvette drivetrain. it had hidden hinges that used the original door pockets.
i dunno - just started thinkin about it.
let me know if you have a thread or photos about it

These are the only pictures I can find of a chopped 55.I talked to the guy that owns this at the Heritage Days car show in Henderson Nevada in 2005.He said it looked great but he hated driving it because the shape of the roof put his head so high up in the roof it was hard to see around him.

hmm i wonder how much those are chopped, i think to chop one of these trucks you have to go real mild, like 1 3/4" - 2" considering there is so much bulk to the body, especially since the 2nd series doesnt have running boards and the door goes so far down.
