55 Chevy 2nd Series Pickup Bed Angle Strips
I am replacing the bed in my 1955 Chevy 2nd Series Pickup. I have noticed something strange that I'm not seeing anywhere else and was wondering if someone could shed some light. My angle strips each had a single bolt through them into the bed wall that also held the rear fender brace (on the other side of the bed wall). Everyone I talk to and every picture I see has angle strips with bolts ONLY through the bottom of the bed. My strips were welded on like they should've been from the factory but had the single bolt hole. Has anyone come across this? Any help would be great as I'm trying to decide what to do with a new set of strips assuming they won't have the single bolt hole.

That is something that I would not fret over a whole lot..If I found I needed a hole then that is what drill motors are made for. possibly someone has been there before with a bed replacement and that is why you are seeing something different..

Yeah I was more concerned with how in the world (if it is indeed a modification) someone got the fender brace to fit properly on a custom drilled hole. Just leads to a lot of other questions I guess. I also wanted to go with polished stainless for my new angle strips which means I will have to be real careful when drilling a hole in them.
Not to mention, the hole in question looks like it came from the factory. But I guess you never know really. |
