55 chevy gas tank

does any one know of a gm gas tank that will fit between the rails of a 55 chevy truck? I'm putting in an lt1 corvette motor with a 4l60 transmission.

gas tank

Check out the GM s-series fuel tanks. I have one in my 54' Chevy truck. Check out my project journel, there is a picture of one in it.

One thing to keep in mind when choosing a tank is the exhaust system will need about 3.5 inches on either side of the tank if routing it out to the rear bumper. You cannot route the pipes over the rear leaf springs as they will come in contact.

I used a 16 gallon tank from Tanks, Inc on my 54. It came with the pickup and the sending unit for the 0-90 ohm GM fuel gauge.

They also have a in tank fuel pump provision if I call correctly. If not you can always use an external fuel pump mounted on the frame rail.

I wanted something with larger capacity but it would have been too large physically to fit my application.

There are other suppliers of custom tanks for your truck. Look in the truck mags. There is always an ad in there for them.
