55 Chevy P/U Body Mount Question
OK...I'll try to describe what we have going with this 55 Chevy pickup.
Bolting the front fenders onto the cab, where they fit to the firewall, down low next to the clutch on the drivers side and about where the passenger's right foot would go, there is a small L-shaped stamped sheet-metal bracket coming out of the firewall into the engine compartment that the bottom rear corner of the fender/wheel-well sheet metal bolts on to. When we put the stamped brackets on we oriented them so that the bottom leg of the "L" points to the outside (Man! I wish I had a digital camera!!). This puts the waste-edge of the stamping on the outside. On the driver's side, if we put the sheet metal of the fender on the INSIDE (where it looks like it should go) it interferes with the clutch travel. If we put it on the outside (where it would need some sort of biscuit to keep it off the waste edge of the stamping) the panel doesn't line up with the door. If we turn the stamped bracket around so that the short leg of the "L" points inboard then we would need an even thicker biscuit...which, of course, we don't have. HELP...anyone who has done this stuff on a 55 Chevy pickup please help us out!! How did you place these brackets? Did you have some sort of rubber spacer or biscuit between the bracket and the body panel? Thanks a lot, Dave Last edited by bluesman123 : 02-15-2004 at 08:03 PM. |
