I have a 55 Chevy Sedan Delivery that I am trying to sell and someone told me that the car has to have a one-piece rear door to be a sedan delivery and mine is a 2-piece with a tailgate. However the side window posts on the nomads are diagonal and mine are straight. I will send you a picture of what I am talking about if you want and see if you can tell me if the car is a real sedan delivery or not.

it shows both styles, single rear door, split rear door, both called sedan deliverys. clear as mud to me, maybe one was known as a"handyman wagon"?

the sedan delivery was classified as a truck and will show as a model number 1508 on the vehicle id which is on the top passenger side of the fire wall. It has a one piece rear door which is hinged on the top. I have one and all of the original sales information and can find no two piece door option. The two piece door does show up on the handy mans wagon which was classifed as a passanger vehicle.

55 Handyman wagons came only with side glass and had a 2 piece tailgate. Also, Handyman wagons were 150 models, not 210. 210 2 door wagons were available, but had more chrome. All the SDs I have seen or have literature for have a one-piece door that opens up toward the top. Check the side panels. If it is a true SD there will be a seam slightly inside the area where the glass would go on a station wagon. If it is a smooth panel all the way to the edge, then it is a modified station wagon. Also, yours could have been a special order for a company or gov't. agency. I know there are a few sedan deliveries still around that were made for the US Forest Service that had glass in the side panel so the rangers could have better vision. You say yours is for sale? How much and where are you located? Are photos available?

Welcome aboard mothollow, now quit digging up 3 year old posts or we will have to ground you.
Just kidding, lots of newbys do that. I guess you don't look at the post date, but how long did you have to scroll into old threads to get back that far? |

You are right about being new to the game. I have a '55 wagon that I am making into a SD (this will be after my '42 GMC restorod is done. My next task is to try and post photos of my rods:'29 Ford SD and '69 SS396 El C are finished. Projects: '42 GMC half-ton, '38 Chev slant-back, '55 Chev SD, and the kicker... a '37 Ford woodie from an existing cowl and some rear inner fender panels (if I should live long enough).
